Careers at Solaira Labs

Build systems cities can trust.

We’re starting with software that tells us which streets need light, which corridors deserve transit shelters, and where infrastructure investment will actually serve people.

Our mission

Cities deserve infrastructure that gives back.

What if the light from an advertisement could illuminate a street after dark? What if a billboard could power the home beside it, or a bus shelter could stay bright when the grid goes silent?

We’re building that future—where every display is also a generator, every brand story fuels resilience, and every community benefits from the energy of attention. By transforming outdoor media into self-sustaining power networks, Solaira Labs turns advertising into a public utility.

But first, we need to know where. We use real behavioral data, transparent methods, and decision-grade rigor to identify where infrastructure investment can make the greatest difference.

Founding Engineer

Build Infrastructure Intelligence That Cities Can Trust

You’re an engineer who wants to build systems that matter—not chase hype. You care about cities like Accra, Jakarta, and Mexico City, where infrastructure gaps are daily realities.

You believe renewable energy is a foundation, not a trend. You value credibility, testability, and shipping things that work because the communities we serve deserve nothing less.

OwnershipEarly responsibility with clear requirements.
ImpactWork you can measure in communities that need it most.
MissionA problem that compounds over years, not quarters.

What you’ll build

First 90 days

  • Data ingestion pipelines for mobility and geospatial datasets
  • A street-level geospatial index for one metro, starting with Accra
  • Scoring logic that identifies unmet infrastructure demand
  • An internal API, interactive map view, and exportable pilot outputs

By six months

  • Multi-city expansion capability, with Jakarta and Mexico City on the roadmap
  • Hardened deployment, monitoring, and performance optimization
  • Partnership on version-two feature scoping

You won’t be expected to define product strategy alone, change models independently, or handle customer messaging.

What you bring

Required

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • 3+ years with backend systems, data pipelines, or analytics platforms
  • Hands-on geospatial experience with tools such as PostGIS, GeoPandas, and spatial joins
  • At least one production system shipped end to end
  • Comfort working from written specifications and acceptance criteria
  • Clear communication about scope, timelines, and technical risk

Valued

  • Startup, infrastructure, urban systems, or civic-tech experience
  • Experience working in or building for emerging markets
  • Understanding of energy systems or renewable infrastructure

Why this is different

You’re not building a dashboard. You’re building a system cities may rely on. We’re starting with software and building toward physical infrastructure that powers communities. Every line of code moves us closer to streets lit by billboards, homes powered by bus shelters, and infrastructure serving communities that have waited longest for investment.

Applied Data Engineer

Turn Human Movement Into Evidence Cities Can Trust

You’re a pragmatic data professional who cares more about impact than novelty. You see Accra, Jakarta, and Mexico City not as data points, but as communities that deserve rigorous, evidence-based systems built with them and for them.

You understand what data cannot say as clearly as what it can—and can write for non-technical audiences making high-consequence decisions.

InterpretabilityModels cities can evaluate.
ClarityMethods that are transparent and reproducible.
RestraintConfidence without overclaiming.

What you’ll own

  • Interpretable models for corridor ranking and infrastructure-demand classification
  • Scoring frameworks calibrated against real-world benchmarks
  • Confidence scores for every output
  • Pressure-testing claims and assumptions in partnership with product
  • Validation reports municipalities and investors can evaluate
  • Documented, transparent, and reproducible modeling methodology
  • Validation analyses for Accra first, followed by Jakarta and Mexico City
  • Applied research briefs for city officials, investors, and partners

This role does not require publishing academic papers, chasing state-of-the-art complexity, or optimizing for theoretical elegance over practical use.

What you bring

Required

  • 4+ years in applied data science, analytics, or quantitative research
  • A strong foundation in statistics and regression-based modeling
  • Experience with large behavioral or mobility datasets
  • Demonstrated ability to explain models to non-technical stakeholders
  • A track record of producing written technical documentation

Valued

  • Urban systems, mobility, policy, infrastructure, or civic-tech experience
  • Comfort with geospatial analysis
  • Experience working in or analyzing emerging markets
  • Understanding of energy systems or infrastructure economics

Why this is different

You’re not optimizing ad clicks. You’re helping cities decide where to build. Your work will inform investments that light streets, shelter commuters, and power homes in communities overlooked for too long. We are not trying to predict everything; we are working to be right enough to act responsibly.
